With Barzilay retiring, EMTs, paramedics and fire protection inspectors could promote current VP or side with spirited challenger

Ballots for the leadership election of Local 2507, a union that represents the FDNY’s EMTs, paramedics and fire protection inspectors, were mailed out last week in the midsts of the union’s negotiations with the city for a new contract. The ballots don’t feature a name familiar to many of the union’s over 4,000 members as Oren Barzilay, the union’s president for the last nine years, plans to retire when his third and final term ends next month.  

Barzilay has endorsed Michael Greco, the current vice president, but the longtime EMT and union official is facing spirited competition from a paramedic based in Brooklyn.
