The Floral Park Board of Trustees announced at its Tuesday, April 7 regular board meeting that it will hold a village budget hearing on April 14.

Mayor Kevin Fitzgerald said the budget hearing is a great opportunity for residents to learn more about the inner workings of the village.

“If there’s one meeting you’ll come to a year, come to the budget meeting,” he said.

During a reorganization meeting on April 6, village officials swore in Trustees Jennifer Stewart and Michael Longobardi, who were reelected last month to their second terms.

Village officials also swore in several village workers and committee members for the next year.

“There are multiple committees, volunteer committees, that keep the village running,” Fitzgerald said. “I thank them for their time, for their commitment to the village, and most importantly for their friendship.”

At the April 7 meeting, the board voted to approve this summer’s pool membership rates.

Trustees voted to approve a proposal for the LandTek Group to repair village basketball courts in the Floral Park Recreation Center for $9,760, and approved a contract with Starfire Corporation for $19,500 for a fireworks display in June.

Trustees also voted to accept a $75,000 distribution to the village from the estate of Charlotte Ernst. The board thanked the estate and said they will put the money to good use.

Trustees also approved the 2026-2027 assessment roll and set a tax sale for May 6. They said 99.23% of 2025 taxes were collected, totaling $29,090,215.40.

For personnel issues, the board approved stipends for Danielle Ferreiro, a temporary account clerk in the village’s accounting office, and Richard Torres to assume the role of crew chief for the tree crew.

Trustees also approved three hirings: John Corradi as a part-time cleaner, Stephanie Battisti as a part-time clerk in the public works department, and Bridget Allen as a part-time employee for the court office.

They also approved a promotion for Michelle DelGiorno in the building department, as well as two merit increases for Matt Zwickel and Richard Torres.

During the meeting, trustees voted to allow the use of public facilities for the Floral Park Bellerose School for its annual Olympic Day Parade; for Sewanhaka High School’s annual homecoming parade; for Trinity Restaurant for its St. Baldrick’s event and its Trinity Anniversary-Belmont Stakes Festival; and for the Floral Park Chamber of Commerce’s annual Tulip Avenue Street Fair on June 5.

Trustees also approved the block party and garage sale permits for April 10 and 11, May 9 and June 13.

During board reports, Longobardi said the West End Drainage Project is ongoing and is currently running ahead of schedule. He said it is over halfway done. He said there are no updates on the Stella apartment proposal, and that the tennis courts are set to open on April 13, subject to weather.

In her report, Stewart said the LIRR signal upgrades will be between Floral Park and Queens Village stations. She said if the New York Islanders make the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, the construction during the week of April 25 will be rescheduled.

“Not gonna happen,” Fitzgerald, a New York Rangers fan, said.
