Police from the 115th Precinct in Jackson Heights made a grisly discovery beneath the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway on Tuesday morning after responding to a 911 call of a person in need of medical attention, just after 11 a.m.
Officers on April 7 found the badly decomposing skeletal remains of a human in a Department of Transportation storage area near Exit 41 on the BQE on Northern Boulevard along the Woodside and Jackson Heights border. It is unclear if a DOT worker discovered the remains.
An NYPD spokesperson said the tip came from a third-party caller.
The gender of the deceased and cause of death will be determined by the city’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
There is no indication how long the remains were in the DOT storage area.
There are no arrests and the investigation remains ongoing, the NYPD spokesperson said.
