NEW YORK, NY — Nearly half of New York City residents approve of Mayor Zohran Mamdani as he approaches his first 100 days in office, according to a new Marist Poll released on Wednesday.

The survey found 48 percent of residents say Mamdani is doing a good job, while 30 percent disapprove and 23 percent say they are unsure.

“Mamdani is also perceived as being likeable, hard working, caring, a good leader, representing all New York City residents, and a unifying force in the Big Apple,” researchers wrote.

The poll shows Mamdani trailing his predecessor, Eric Adams, who held a 61 percent approval rating at a similar point in his first term.

A majority of residents, 55 percent, hold a favorable view of Mamdani, compared with 33 percent who view him unfavorably. Most respondents also say the city is moving in the right direction.

Support varies sharply by party. Among Democrats, 63 percent approve of Mamdani’s performance. The same share of Republicans, 63 percent, disapprove. Among independents, 41 percent disapprove, 27 percent approve and 31 percent are unsure.

“He is also perceived by many to be fulfilling campaign promises,” the poll states. “When it comes to whether city residents trust Mamdani to make decisions that are in the best interest of the five boroughs, a majority of adults have that confidence in him.”

Approval also differs by borough. Majorities in Brooklyn and Manhattan approve of Mamdani, while fewer than half of residents in the Bronx and Queens say the same. In Staten Island, 57 percent disapprove.

The borough has been a source of criticism in recent months, including complaints over the rollout of the city’s free 2-K program, which did not initially include Staten Island, and delays in snow removal following a major winter storm.

Citywide, 65 percent of residents approve of Mamdani’s handling of snowstorms, compared with 30 percent approval in Staten Island.

The poll also found most residents view Mamdani’s relationships with other leaders positively. Fifty-nine percent say he has the “right balance” in working with President Donald Trump.

At the state level, 60 percent say he maintains a good working relationship with Gov. Kathy Hochul, as the two collaborate on initiatives including expanded child care.
