BUSHWICK — HIVE MIND BOOKS in Bushwick has come to the rescue for the last queer bookstore in Manhattan, The Bureau of General Services — Queer Division, reports Gothamist.
After several bookstores shuttered throughout the city, Manhattan is left with one explicitly queer bookstore. The Bureau in the West Village announced it would close unless someone else purchased it, and Hive Mind owner Jules Wernersbach stepped up. Through fundraising efforts, planned software and worker updates, and raising awareness on social media, Hive Mind may be able to save the Bureau.
Wernersbach told Gothamist that Hive Mind plans to stay a distinct entity from the Bureau, even after the purchase goes through.
