On the 100th day of his administration, Mayor Zohran Mamdani celebrated by cleaning up the Bronx, finding all manner of rubbish.

“You cannot come here from Rhode Island and dump your license plate,” the mayor said, holding up the license plate.

He had donned a DSNY vest and picked up litter for a bit in Soundview.

“All of this should be clean. We have so many New Yorkers that live right around here who deserve the kinds of conditions that any New Yorker does,” he said.

“What we’ve seen over the course of these 100 days is New York City wants to see a city government that is able to meet the biggest needs and the smallest needs,” he said.

The scene in Soundview was riddled with piles of trash neighbors said are usually left overnight.

“We also don’t want a one-and-done. We want them to monitor it, to keep it clean,” Tracy Jennings, who lives in the neighborhood, said.

With every can and plastic bag gone, it was clear the mayor had won some fans.

“They’re taking this thing serious. The amount of garbage accumulated in our neighborhood is disgusting,” Victor Garrido, who lives around the corner, said.

After some time, the roadway had clearly improved, with neighbors saying it’s a good start for Mayor Mamdani.

“I think so far, so good. I am not going to go ahead and say, ‘rah, rah, rah.’ I like to see it. I haven’t seen a mayor come out here, so that’s a fresh start,” Ashley Marrero, another resident, said.
