Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark announced Monday, Oct. 6, that 10 people have been variously charged with murder, attempted murder, and weapons charges for a series of retaliatory shootings surrounding Labor Day weekend that left four people dead and seven wounded.
“A total of 10 defendants, three of whom are under 18, are charged in two mass shootings at summer’s end that killed three people, including 17-year-old Anthonaya Campbell, and in a third shooting that claimed a man’s life,” Clark said. “Nearly 60 shots were fired in Haffen Park, and more than a dozen bullets flew on busy Allerton Avenue.”
She continued, “We cannot and will not stand for such brazen violence and bloodshed in our communities. Thirteen guns were recovered during the investigations, and some of the firearms are linked by ballistics to 13 other incidents of gunfire. It is time for a concerted, precise and fierce effort with the NYPD and our federal partners to stem the prolific weapons.”
Clark said that between August 23 and Sept. 2, there were three deadly shootings in The Bronx, two of them mass shootings in which five people were shot. She said NYPD detectives from the 47th, 48th, and 49th Precinct Squads, along with the Bronx Homicide investigating the shootings recovered 13 guns: ten 9 mm pistols, two .45-caliber pistols, and a .380-caliber pistol.
She said the NYPD Gun Violence Suppression Division and Firearms Analysis Section tied five of the 13 guns to 13 other incidents of gunfire throughout The Bronx and elsewhere in the city, as well as to a shooting in Mount Vernon and one in South Carolina. She said ballistics from Haffen Park in Baychester are also tied to ballistic evidence from eight other shootings.
During the press conference held Monday at the Bronx DA”s office, Norwood News asked if one of those shootings was the shooting in Westchester Square around the same timeframe on Aug. 22, which resulted in four young teens aged 15 and under being shot. She said it was not.
Clark said Davean Reyes, 20, an unnamed 17-year-old youth, and an unnamed 16-year-old youth were charged in one indictment with two counts of second-degree murder, three counts of attempted murder in the second degree, two counts of first-degree manslaughter, and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

She said they have been arraigned and remain in custody. She said Robert Royal, 25, was charged separately with two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and was arraigned Oct. 2, with bail continuing at $200,000 cash/$200,000, bond/$200,000 and partially secured bond at 10%.
According to the investigation, on Aug. 23, at around 7.30 p.m., Reyes and the two teens allegedly opened fire at a basketball tournament in Haffen Park in Baychester, and people returned gunfire. Prosecutors said Jaceil Blanks, 32, was shot in the torso and died, Anthonaya Campbell, 17, was shot in the head and died in the hospital on Sept. 8, and a 30-year-old man was shot in the back.
Additionally, they said a 29-year-old woman was shot in the torso, lodging a bullet in her lung, a 42-year-old man was grazed in the hand and a total of 57 shots were fired during the incident from 11 different guns. They said five guns were recovered at the scene.
Clark said Heron Martin, 21, Shamir Murray, 19, Kai Oulai, 19, Jose Gomez, 18, and an unnamed 16-year-old youth were charged in an indictment with second-degree murder, the defendants were arraigned and remain in custody.
Additionally, according to the investigation, on Sept. 1, at around 7.30 p.m., Martin, Murray, Oulai, Gomez, and an unnamed 16-year-old allegedly drove in a Honda Accord to 686 Allerton Avenue in Allerton. Prosecutors said four of the defendants allegedly exited the car and fired 13 times, with four of the shots fatally striking Jamari Henry, 24, their intended target.
They said Henry had been in Haffen Park on Aug. 23. They said four other men were each shot once. Their wounds were not critical. They said the defendants got back in the car and police pursued them. They said the fugitives then crashed their car into another vehicle and then into a wall at Hone and Arnow Avenues in Allerton.
Prosecutors said five guns were recovered from the incident, including a .45-caliber pistol equipped with a Glock switch that made it fully automatic.
Clark said Desean Edwards, 22, was charged in an indictment with second-degree murder, first-degree manslaughter, six counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, three counts of criminal possession of a firearm, seven counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, prohibition of unfinished frames and receivers, and possession of ammunition.
