MANHATTAN, N.Y. (PIX11) — Two firefighters are hurt after battling a massive 3‑alarm fire that tore through a building on Seventh Avenue on Sunday morning, officials said.
The fire broke out around 6 a.m. in the upper floors of a mixed‑use building that residents say has been abandoned.
Thick smoke poured from the top levels as firefighters worked from several ladder trucks to contain the flames.
Two firefighters sustained minor injuries and were being evaluated by EMS crews.
Crews remained on site for more than two hours as they worked to bring the fire under control.
It was not yet clear whether anyone was inside the building when the fire started, according to the fire chief.
A neighbor who lives next door from the building told PIX11 News she woke up to the sound of firetrucks and immediately sensed something was wrong.
