LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear made an appearance in New York City during a convention, where he spoke to Rev. Al Sharpton.
During the National Action Network Convention, Sharpton asked Beshear about his political future, asking about the possibly of future campaigns.
Currently serving his second term as governor, Beshear cannot run for the office again in 2027, but has grown his political presence on the national stage in recent years.
“I don’t have any announcement,” Beshear said, “but I will not leave a broken country to my kids, or anyone else’s kids or grandkids.
While Beshear did not confirm any future political campaigns, he emphasized the importance of the upcoming gubernatorial races.
“What I’m running this year is the Democratic Governors Association,” Beshear said. “I hope everybody is watching governor’s races.”
Beshear also spoke about Breonna Taylor, who was killed by police in 2020.
A federal judge recently dismissed all charges against the two officers involved on Friday, March 27.
“She should still be with us today,” Beshear said. “We should be willing to look at anything and everything that led to her death to make sure it doesn’t happen to anyone else.”
During the conference, Beshear also highlighted immigration, saying Americans deserve to feel safe, and for that to happen, law enforcement might need to take steps toward change.
