A rare collection of authentic paintings by Bob Ross, the beloved 1990s public television artist, will soon be available for public viewing, auctioneers at Bonhams said on Tuesday.

A series of paintings, which famously depict natural landscapes, will be on view at Bonhams New York headquarters, located at 111 West 57th St. from April 18 through 22. Following the display, Bonhams will auction four Ross paintings on April 23 to benefit public television

The sale will be the third official grouping of original Bob Ross paintings at Bonhams’ newly unveiled U.S. flagship, part of the series of 30 works, to be sold on behalf of American Public Television (APT). Beginning bids for many of the paintings range between $30,000 and $50,000.

Organizers said APT has pledged to direct 100% of its net proceeds to support public television stations nationwide.

The late Ross, renowned for showing Americans how to paint from their living rooms with his soothing style, is a cultural icon whose original works rarely come to market. More than 30 years after his passing in 1995 at the age of 52, Ross is arguably as popular as ever today — with his “Joy of Painting” programs popular on YouTube, and numerous products, from socks to paint kits, bearing his unmistakable likeness.

Joan Kowalski, president of Bob Ross Inc., shared a few words with amNewYork about the legendary artist.

“Bob Ross dedicated his life to making art accessible to everyone through public television,” she said. “This auction ensures his legacy continues to support the very medium that brought his joy and creativity into American homes for decades.”

Kowalski’s parents co-founded Bob Ross Inc. with Ross and his wife, Jan, and produced “The Joy of Painting” television series.

“I can’t think of a more meaningful way to share his works of art than by supporting public television’s mission to educate and inspire,” she said.

The auction is part of Bonhams’ American Art sale. Auctioneers estimate the paintings will sell for between $25,000 and $60,000.

But to Bob Ross fans everywhere, the paintings are priceless.
