A Saranac woman is facing multiple charges after New York State Police say she threw hammers, axes, and a hatchet at responding officers.Troopers said emergency crews were called to a residence on Flagg Street in Dannemora on Saturday afternoon for a reported overdose. When they arrived, Melissa Maynard allegedly blocked medical personnel from entering the home by breaking and throwing items.State police and members of the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department attempted to enter the residence, at which point Maynard began throwing dangerous objects at them, including the hammers and axes.Authorities said a trooper displayed a taser and gave verbal commands, but Maynard did not comply. The taser was then deployed, and Maynard sustained a head injury. She was taken to CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh for treatment before being released back into police custody.Maynard has been charged with assault, menacing a police officer, reckless endangerment, and other related offenses.She was arraigned in Town of Peru Court and remanded to the Clinton County Jail after failing to post $20,000 cash bail.
