New York State Police seek help in 45-year-old homicide case

ONEONTA, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – Police are renewing their hope of solving a homicide that’s over 45 years-old.

New York State Police have released this sketch of a man they believe may have valuable information related to the unsolved death of Barry Marquart. Marquart was reported missing on November 9th, 1980 by his father. Marquart was from Oneonta but had been living with a roommate in Binghamton.

Marquart’s vehicle was found at the former Interstate 81 rest area that is now part of Otsiningo Park in the Town of Dickinson. His body was then discovered in the nearby Chenango River. An autopsy determined that he died from drowning but had also suffered blunt force trauma to his head and face.

Police say the individual depicted in the sketch is not currently a suspect. He would have been in his 20’s or 30’s in November 1980 and is described as 5 foot 10 and between 140 and 160 pounds. Anyone with information is asked to call State Police at 561-7400.
