STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Police are searching for a person who carried out back-to-back convenience store robberies early Wednesday morning.
Around 12:05 a.m., police received a 911 call from a victim who said that an unknown individual entered a business located at 171 Broad St. in Stapleton.
A 24-hour convenience store is located at the address provided by police.
The individual “simulated a firearm,” according to an NYPD spokesperson, and removed an unknown amount of money from the cash register before fleeing.
The individual then traveled roughly one mile away to 353 Victory Blvd. in Tompkinsville, the location of another convenience store, according to police.
The unknown individual entered the store around 1:30 a.m. and again simulated having a firearm and removed more money from the cash register, according to the spokesperson.
The individual then fled on foot on Victory Boulevard, heading toward Forest Avenue, to parts unknown, police say.
There were no injuries reported in either robbery, and the spokesperson was not able to say how much money was stolen.
Police described a person of interest in both robberies as a male, who was last seen wearing a gray and black hooded sweatshirt with black glasses and carrying a black backpack.
No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
