(NewsNation) — More than a year after a public feud with her son, Brooklyn Beckham, played out on social media, Victoria Beckham is speaking out about the situation.

In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, Beckham was asked about her oldest son but did not mention him by name.

“I think that we’ve always — we love our children so much,” she said.

“We’ve always tried to be the best parents that we can be. And you know, we’ve been in the public eye for more than 30 years right now, and all we’ve ever tried to do is protect our children and love our children. And you know, that’s all I really want to say about it,” Beckham added.

Rumors of tension within the family began around Brooklyn Beckham’s 2022 wedding to Nicola Peltz.

Peltz did not wear a wedding dress from Victoria Beckham’s fashion label, despite reports that such plans had been discussed. Peltz denied there was conflict, saying she wanted to wear a dress from the collection but that design issues ultimately led her to choose another gown.

The dispute escalated publicly when Brooklyn accused his mother on social media of “hijacking” the first dance he was meant to share with Peltz at the wedding.

“She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone,” Brooklyn wrote at the time. “I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life.”

Brooklyn also accused his family of prioritizing publicity and brand endorsements, writing that “Brand Beckham” came first and suggesting family support was tied to social media presence.

Following the conflict, Brooklyn Beckham said reconciliation was “off the table.”

“I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled. I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life,” he said.
