Brookville, NY –Â The University of Mount Saint Vincent wrapped up a tough doubleheader against St. Joseph’s University Brooklyn on Saturday, dropping both contests in a pair of competitive but ultimately losing efforts.
UMSV completed the day of games with an updated conference record of 1-7.
In the opener, the Dolphins fell behind early after a three-run homer in the first inning put them in a hole they couldn’t fully climb out of. UMSV answered in the third, highlighted by Keira Stroud, who ripped a two-RBI single to bring the Dolphins within one. Despite that push, the Bears added insurance in the fourth and held on for the 5-2 win.
Game two followed a similar script. St. Joseph’s Brooklyn struck first and built a multi-run lead in the bottom of the first frame. UMSV showed fight again in the fifth inning, as Carmen Henderson delivered a clutch two-run double to cut the deficit in half. Another late home run by the Bears, however, extended the lead and sealed a 6-2 decision.
Samantha Aviles and Chloe Hart both paced the Dolphins with two hits apiece in game one, while Stroud drove in the only runners of the contest. Henderson led in both categories in game two, and Savannah Autobee struck out six in complete games in both legs of the double header.Â
The Dolphins are set to host Manhattanville University on Sunday.Â
