MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – On April 19, 1989, a brutal attack in Central Park shocked New York City.
A 28-year-old jogger, Trisha Meili, was beaten and sexually assaulted. She was left in a ravine with a shattered skull and little chance of survival.
Five teenagers from Harlem, Antron McCray, Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana, and Korey Wise, known as the Central Park Five, were quickly arrested and later convicted.
Years later, DNA evidence and a confession from another man cleared them, overturning their convictions.
