The Irish Repertory Theatre and Fishamble’s Transatlantic Commissions Program—now partnering with The Apollo Theatre—has revealed its 2026–2027 cohort. The program, which launched in 2022, will now partner with the historic Harlem theatre to commission Black Irish writers and artists of color to develop work.
The Transatlantic Commissions Program was founded to address historical inequities in theatre. The two companies will commission four Black Irish artists and artists of color to create one full-length play, each under the mentorship of Kelly Girod—playwright, producer, and director of new works at the Apollo—with additional dramaturgical support provided by Gavin Kostick, literary manager at Fishamble; and Nicola Murphy Dubey, director of new play development at Irish Repertory Theatre.
This year’s cohort will include Tishé Fatunbi, Dafe Orugbo, Esosa Ighodaro, and Seán Gallen. The program, which began this month, will culminate in public staged readings in Dublin and New York next year.
