ALBANY – Governor Hochul is suing to get the money New Yorkers had to spend as a result of illegal Trump tariffs. The US Supreme Court said the Trump administration had to reimburse businesses to the tune of $166 billion. But there was no provision in their decision to reimburse taxpayers.
“Starting today, businesses can begin submitting documentation to reclaim the money they paid. And that’s an important first step. But remember, every day New Yorkers also pay the price,” Hochul said.
“It’s not just a business that can show on a ledger that they paid this tariff to this entity; $13.5 billion is the additional cost that has been imposed on New Yorkers alone because of the Trump tariffs,” she explained. “And that’s about $1,700 for the average family.”
