Dorothy R Sklar (92 years) was born April 1, 1934 to Anna (Fritz) and Charles Leonard Blair in Buckingham, Colorado. She was born in a country farm house, the medical doctor came to their 160 acre family farm that was 5 miles south of Buckingham, Colorado, to check the new baby. The farm was nice with good buildings and a deep well. They had a few cattle, six work horses, some litters of pigs and many chickens.
Dorothy married Don R Gronsten of Weldona, Colorado on May 29, 1955. Together they had 3 children and later divorced. Dorothy received her BA Education Teaching degree from University of Northern Colorado. She taught in California and eventually moved to Staten Island, NY in 1975. Dorothy always had many fun and happy stories about how smart her Brooklyn, NY students were and talked about how much joy they brought to her life. Dorothy was a reader and her favorite type of books were history books. She could amazingly quote history dates off the top of her head. She was a Senior Companion for many years for other Staten Island elderly people and loved helping others. She passed away with a sharp mind.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Bob (Janet), Rosemary (Alan), Joyce (Mike) and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Dorothy had many great friends on Staten Island and called New York her home. She passed away peacefully at Staten Island Care Center. Her remains will reside on Staten Island, NY. There will be no service but she ask that I express her love to everyone who helped take care of her and to the many close friends who were always there for her, rain or shine.
Memorial Contributions she said should be kept and used to show your own family love and to create family strength. God Bless.
