School districts, local governments left waiting as New York State budget deadline pushed to April 27

ALBANY, N.Y. — New York State lawmakers approved a sixth extension to the state budget on Wednesday. The original budget deadline was April 1.

Major sticking points include climate law rollbacks, car insurance reforms, immigration policies, Tier Six pensions and taxing the rich. The temporary measure authorizes nearly $13 billion in spending to make sure state employees get paid.

The delays are leaving school districts and local governments in a holding pattern when it comes to funding.

The state budget is now due this coming Monday.
