A culinary offering in the Big Apple is making waves in the Lone Star State for its take on Texas breakfast fare.
Reddit user @eldersveld shared images of a Manhattan cafe, Casa Next Door, selling “Austin style” breakfast burritos that featured eggs, chorizo, peppers, onions, potatoes and cheese. An April 2025 Instagram post confirmed the burritos paying homage to the Texas capital had been added to the business’ daily breakfast menu, retailing at $11 with chorizo or $9 sans meat.
“Fresh, filling, and made with love – grab one starting at 8AM until they’re gone,” the business captioned the post, which pictured the burrito alongside Valentina hot sauce and a bottle of Topo Chico.

On Reddit, users had an array of responses to @eldersveld’s question: “Is this ‘Austin-style’ in any way you recognize? How do you do your breakfast burritos?”
The results? This ain’t an Austin specialty, but more of a West Texas delicacy.
“We do breakfast tacos. Breakfast burritos are a Lubbock/West Texas thing,” @defroach84 wrote, prompting @HookEm_Tide to reply: “True, but I doubt ‘Lubbock Style’ would draw a crowd.”
The menu feature also piqued California versus Texas comparisons, given the Golden State is notorious for its morning burritos compared to Texas’ typical foray into breakfast tacos.
Despite the cultural snafu affiliating Austin with breakfast burritos, users shared their curiosity in the New York City breakfast item, with @slow_cyclist512 writing: “First off, as others have said, Austin does 99% breakfast tacos, not burritos. Second off, I don’t really care about the first off, I’m Austin raised, now living in NYC and I’m 100% gonna try this place ASAP.”
The OG poster co-signed that, adding it was “a satisfying breakfast burrito” and that they “welcome an Austin invasion to bring the [NYC] standards up.”
