As exclusively shared with QNS, Assemblymember Jenifer Rajkumar is leading a South Queens relief effort for a family recently affected by a Woodhaven house fire on Monday, April 20, mobilizing community support and resources to help them rebuild.

To further aid the initiative, Daniel Lowy, the CEO and Principal of EMU Health, donated $5,000 to support the victims.

The outreach follows a fire that broke out at 90-21 76th St. in Woodhaven this week, displacing two families — five adults and five children, as described in Rajkumar’s statement released on Tuesday, April 21.

“These are our neighbors, and they have our full support as they begin to recover,” Rajkumar said in Tuesday’s statement. “I have been in close contact with the Red Cross and FDNY to ensure that every resident affected receives the care and resources they need during this difficult time.

One of the families includes a pregnant mother, whose name was not disclosed, along with three children — ages 12, 4 and 1.

As confirmed in the exclusive, Rajkumar has been working directly with the family and coordinating a donation drive, bringing together neighbors, local organizations and community leaders.

“When something like this happens, leadership matters. Assemblymember Rajkumar didn’t wait—she stepped in, organized support, and made sure this family wasn’t alone,” said Lowy. “I’m proud to contribute $5,000 to help them rebuild, and I hope others will join her in supporting this effort.”

“I am deeply grateful to Daniel Lowy for his generosity and leadership. This is what community is all about—people stepping up for one another in times of need,” Rajkumar said. “We will continue working to make sure this family has the support they need to recover and rebuild.”

Rajkumar, who represents the neighborhoods of Ridgewood, Glendale, Woodhaven, Richmond Hill and Ozone Park, is calling on the community to continue contributing essential items, including clothing, food, and children’s supplies.

FDNY confirmed that the department received a call at approximately 2:24 a.m. on the day of the incident. In addition, a second-floor fire occurred, and 21 units with 79 fire and EMS personnel responded. No injuries were reported.

Regarding the fire, the Red Cross confirmed the registration of two households totaling “10 individuals,” including five adults and five children. For emergency assistance, the organization provided “financial aid and temporary lodging.”
