Brooklyn Walker, a 14-year-old from western Palm Beach County, is recovering at St. Mary’s Medical Center after sustaining extensive injuries in a crash.Brooklyn, who loves riding and competing with horses, was riding her electric skateboard in her Palm Beach Ranchettes community on April 8.According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, Brooklyn collided with another teenager on a motorbike. The crash left her with injuries all over her body, including a broken knee, a lacerated spleen, and a traumatic brain injury.She was in a coma. Doctors initially weren’t sure if she would ever wake up. “I would never wish this upon anybody. This is literally the worst thing I have ever dealt with in my entire life,” said her father, Ryan Walker. Five days after the crash, Brooklyn did something remarkable.She opened her eyes.A week later, Brooklyn looked at photos of herself in a coma.“It’s just crazy that I looked like that only a week ago, even just a couple of days ago I looked like that,” she said.Since waking up, Brooklyn has been undergoing rehabilitation, but her journey to recovery will be a long one.“She has to learn how to speak again, walk again. That’s, I would say, probably the hardest part,” Ryan Walker said. While walking is a goal, Brooklyn has her sights set on something closer to her heart. “I want to ride my horses,” she said. “I just want to ride my horses again.” Her father shares her hope. “I just want to see her ride again. I would love to see it. That’s my ultimate outcome,” he said. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the crash and is asking anyone with information to call them at 561-688-3400.Ryan Walker said the medical bills are already more than $800,000.
