Star Amerasu will join the cast of Silverback Mountain, a “new gay jungle play” (per the show’s subtitle) set to premiere Off-Broadway at AMT Theater. Previews begin May 31 with an opening night set for June 5. Silverback Mountain will play for a three-week limited engagement through June 31.
Silverback Mountain, directed by Sam Lafrage and written by Mickey Gooch, Jr. (who also stars), follows Mickey and Andy, boyfriends who have differing ideas of what they want for their relationship. Andy wants monogamy, Mickey wants space. In the midst of their arguing, they end up heading to Uganda on a gorilla trekking trip. This screwball comedy meets rom-com musical finds the two on an emotional journey discovering their identities in the midst of an absurd collision of gay culture and anti-gay persecution.
Gooch Jr. plays Mickey, joined by Amerasu as Miss Jackson, Olamide Asanpaola as Tumaini, Leo Jasper Davis as Mamadu, Joe Regelbrugge as Andy, Samuel Selman as Mustafa, Walker Stovall as Marty, and Jason Yanto as Kai, along with understudies Kahlil S. Harvey, Jackson Whittier, and Collins Rush.
The production features musical direction by Jaz Loft, choreography by Nico DeJesus, music arrangements and copyist work by Bryan Blaskie, scenic design by Josh Oberlander, costume design by Sarah Lockwood, lighting design by Coby Chasman-Beck, sound design by Brandon Hilfer, projection design by Zack Lobel, and props design and set dressing by Sean Frank. Production management by Kyle Daniels, stage management by Julie Cai, and assistant stage management by Jaden Cavalleri.
