MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – Students of the NMU Choir Department have returned home after a once-in-a-lifetime experience in New York City.
NMU Director of Choral Activities Erin Colwitz was invited to conduct at the Carnegie Hall. Colwitz brought her students, and they were given a chance to perform alongside professionals in the choir.
Colwitz says her students made sure to get the most out of their trip. The students visited museums, saw the skyscrapers, and even watched shows on Broadway. Colwitz says it’s all part of the experience they wouldn’t get in Marquette.
Colwitz says several students got a big surprise waiting for them in the audience during the show.
“We had a lot of NMU parents in the crowd, which was kind of cool, it brought some of the hometown feel,” Colwitz said. “But then of course you also have New Yorkers who buy tickets for a Monday night concert at Carnegie Hall and get to see all kinds of people from around the country.”
Colwitz wants people to know the choir will be hosting a concert on April 25th and the 26th. Tickets can be found on the NMU events website.
