Manhattan High girls’ swimming captured the team title Friday at the Marion Invitational, finishing with 361 points in a tightly contested meet.

The Indians edged Garden City (339) and host Marion (338), flipping the script from an earlier loss to Garden City this season to secure the victory against a strong field.

Manhattan opened the meet with a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay, as the group of Delaney Saucier, Caris Goering, Ava McKee and Ashtan Hansen touched in 2:14.49.

Individually, the Indians were paced by strong finishes in the individual medley, where McKee placed third at 2:38.53 and Saucier followed in fifth. Kami Spencer added a seventh-place finish to give Manhattan three scorers in the event.

In the sprint events, Aubrey Niedermayer led the way with a seventh-place finish in the 50 freestyle, while Hansen followed in eighth and Ellie Lund added a 10th-place finish.

Saucier highlighted Manhattan’s effort in the butterfly with a fourth-place finish, while Lund placed sixth and Kieryn Copp added a ninth-place showing.

Hansen paced the Indians in the 100 freestyle with an eighth-place finish, while Niedermayer and Mary Brighton also scored.

In the distance events, Goering delivered one of Manhattan’s top swims of the meet, placing second in the 500 freestyle at 6:14.83. McKee followed in fourth, and Brady Inman added an eighth-place finish.

The Indians added another key relay performance in the 200 freestyle relay, placing fourth behind the team of Niedermayer, Madilyn Powell, Brighton and Saucier.

In the backstroke, Lyla Buser led Manhattan with a sixth-place finish, followed by Makenna Dobson in ninth and Mallory Pecenka in 10th.

Goering, Spencer and Powell added three scoring swims in the 100 breaststroke.

Manhattan closed the meet with a win in the 400 freestyle relay, as the team of Niedermayer, Hansen, McKee and Goering placed first in 4:20.77 to seal the team title.

Manhattan is now off from meet competition for the next two weeks as it prepares for the Centennial League meet on May 14.
