TROY — HBO drama “The Gilded Age” has established a recurring presence in the Capital Region in recent years, with filming taking place in and around Albany, Schenectady and Troy at various points. With the series now headed into its fourth season, production will soon return to the streets and historic city facades, according to several new casting notices posted for the show.
Among the “Gilded Age” roles being cast are several “Male Doorman & Upper Class” background characters. This time, male actors aged 26-50 years old are being sought to portray background characters of “white ethnicity,” per the casting notice. Fitting for the role is expected to happen May 1 in Troy, with shooting expected to begin May 30 and run through June 23.
The roles being cast are open to both Screen Actors Guild — American Federation of Television and Radio Artists union members and non-union actors, with pay rates of $224 per eight-hour shift and $187 per 10-hour shift, respectively.
As with the prior casting notices, aspiring background actors will need to submit their measurements and photos to be considered for the roles and be comfortable working with atmospheric smoke and wearing wool costumes. The actors will also need to “have some length to their hair” and be willing to receive a “period-appropriate haircut and/or facial hair alteration to fit the time period.”
Premiering in 2022, “The Gilded Age” is set in New York City during the 1880s and chronicles the lives and relationships of various characters from within the upper class of society, their hired help and the industrial workers of the era.
In addition to these locally based background roles, GWCI has also posted a long list of casting notices for “Gilded Age” shoots in the more vague “NYC area,” with fittings scheduled in and around Brooklyn throughout April and May.
