The British are coming, or rather, they’ve arrived! Touching down in Washington, D.C., King Charles III and Queen Camilla brought a bit of London style to the United States capital for their first-ever official state visit.
Although the king frequently visited the U.S. during Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, meeting with various presidents when he was still the Prince of Wales, he had yet to embark on an official visit as monarch—until now. Earlier this year, he accepted an invitation from President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump to stop by the States from April 27–30.

For the first day, Camilla leaned into the springtime season—matching the cherry blossoms of D.C. with a pastel pink coat, later followed by a floral-embellished dress.
The first of the two, which she wore as she descended the steps of their plane, was designed with a sweet collar, patch pockets sewed to side panels, and a mock belt at the waist. Showing her commitment to her both her home and the host country, she pinned two flags to her chest: the Union Jack and the U.S.’s Stars and Stripes.

Later, she posed for photos alongside the Trumps in a white coat dress with silver wire detailing serving as stand-in lapels and tracing the folds of her skirt’s pleats. Finished with beading, the delicate appliqués created 3D floral shapes. The queen carried a cream woven handbag to round things out.
Matching her color palette, Melania wore a pastel yellow set.

In an official statement from the palace, it was declared that this visit is meant to celebrate the “historic connections and the modern bilateral relationship” between the U.S. and the United Kingdom. (Interestingly enough, this summer marks the 250th anniversary of the States’ independence.)
