New York may continue to have talks throughout the offseason. But they weren’t close to dealing the edge rusher during the draft, via Adam Schefter of ESPN.
“The New York Giants never came close to trading Kayvon Thibodeaux during the draft,” Schefter said. “They had a conversation with the Saints about a month ago but the talks never really went anywhere.”
New York now has Brian Burns, Abdul Carter, Thibodeaux and Reese all in their front seven. Trading away Thibodeaux would net the Giants further draft capital to fill other holes on their roster. But keeping him on the roster ensures the franchise shows a ferocious front on essentially every down.

Since arriving to the Giants as the fifth overall pick in 2022, Thibodeaux has started 53 games for the franchise. The edge rusher has put up 152 tackles, 55 quarterback hits and 23.5 sacks. He broke onto the scene in 2023 with career-highs in tackles (50) and sacks (11.5). A year prior, he had a career-high 17 QB hits. But during the 2025 season, Thibodeaux was limited to just 10 games due to injury. He had 25 tackles, nine QB hits and 2.5 sacks overall.
The Giants clearly aren’t going to just give the pass rusher away. But they do need to find a resolution sooner rather than later. If it involves not trading away Thibodeaux, they’ll need to find the best use of him on their defense.
