The organization Autizm Out Loud is doing what it can to get caregivers some needed resources during Autism Awareness Month.
A sensory, social party was held on Sunday for families at the Rochdale Village Community Center in Queens.
Children were treated to an afternoon of games and fun, and parents connected with their community.
The event was pulled together by a mom who is very familiar with the struggles some families face.
“I have a son on the spectrum, and he has behaviors,” Lorin Williams, the president and founder of Autizm Out Loud, said. “And for me to find resources and to find community, it’s almost obsolete. S.”o I’m creating a space for people like me, for caregivers like me.”
“There’s not a lot of events like this in the community, and I really love events like this because it brings everybody together and brings awareness to autism,” Lykita Carol, a parent, said.
The organization hosts free monthly playdates and workshops for families.
This event was held in partnership with City Council member Ty Hankerson.
