ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – A plane crash north of Minneapolis reportedly has ties to the Rochester area.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Dr. Joseph Cass, a retired doctor who worked at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, died on Saturday in Brooklyn Park. A close friend of Cass told KTTC Cass is believed to be the pilot during the flight. However, local authorities have not confirmed that at this time.
NBC-affiliate KARE 11 reported the plane crashed at 11:51 a.m. in Southbrook Park, near 62nd Avenue. The plane crashed north of Crystal Airport. The North Dakota Democratic-Nonpartisan League Party confirmed state representative Liz Conmy is one of the two people who died in the crash.
Brooklyn Park Police Department told KTTC the National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation. In a statement to KTTC, NTSB said its on-scene investigation is complete and the plane has been moved to another location for further investigation.
A preliminary report is expected to be released within 30 days of the incident.
