Witches, ghouls and goblins across the five boroughs will have clear skies and strong winds this Halloween.
The National Weather Service reports wind gusts of 30 to 40 miles per hour are expected to blow through New York City and surrounding areas starting Friday afternoon – great flying weather for anyone with a broomstick, but less ideal for outdoor decorations that could become airborne.
Meteorologist Matt Wunsch said people should definitely consider tying down any light items that could blow away, like inflatable cats, ghosts and demons.
“ It’ll be dry, but it’ll be windy for all the trick-or-treaters out there,” he said.
The blustery weather will follow some rain expected on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday, with higher chances for widespread showers through Thursday afternoon and night, Wunsch said. Temperatures will stay in the high 50s to low 60s.
Skies should start to clear up by early Friday morning, with the wind picking up as the day goes on and the system moves north, according to the NWS.
“It should be fairly dry and seasonable for much of the weekend,” Wunsch said, “but it still will be a little gusty on Saturday with the system kind of pulling away.”
Sunday’s forecast for the New York City Marathon looks like clear skies, lighter breezes, and seasonable temps in the mid-50s, according to the NWS.
Wunsch said New Yorkers should not expect to see any residual effects from Hurricane Melissa, which will be out over the ocean by the time it moves north.
