Families and neighbors are invited to come together for a day of fun at Earth Day Rockaway, celebrating its 20th annual event on Saturday, May 2, 2026. Hosted by RISE, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to environmental work, the event will take place from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at 58-03 Rockaway Beach Boulevard.
This free, family-friendly celebration offers something for all ages, with dozens of local organizations coming together to host an array of engaging activities. Attendees can enjoy a variety of arts and crafts, potting plants, face painting, double dutch, bracelet making, sports activities, and much more.
There will also be live music from a jazz band, adding to the lively atmosphere throughout the day. The event is designed to bring the Rockaway community together while encouraging participants, especially children and families, to connect with and care for their local environment.
Over the past two decades, Earth Day Rockaway has grown into a beloved neighborhood tradition, fostering a strong sense of community and leaving attendees with a deeper appreciation for the place they call home. One of the most anticipated highlights each year is the tree giveaway, sponsored by PSEG Long Island. Trees are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis and are often claimed within the first hour. Community members interested in beautifying their homes or neighborhoods are encouraged to arrive early to take part in this popular offering.
Last year, one local parent shared how much the event meant to her family: “I love having something like this in the neighborhood. It gives the kids a safe, fun place to be, and they’re learning about the environment at the same time.” The event is free and open to the public, with no registration required. Multiple giveaways will be available throughout the day, making it easy for families to stop by, participate, and enjoy.
All are welcome to join in this milestone celebration and be part of a longstanding tradition that continues to strengthen community ties while promoting environmental awareness. RISE is a local environmental nonprofit organization committed to community resilience and stewardship. Earth Day Rockaway marks the organization’s 20th annual celebration of this signature event.
