BROOKLYN NAVY YARD — THE HISTORIC DISTRICTS COUNCIL is offering a two-hour walking tour called “Brooklyn Navy Yard: Past, Present and Future” on Saturday, May 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. The Navy Yard was once the nation’s premier naval shipyard, from the War of 1812 through the Cold War. Today, its industrial facilities have been repurposed to support 450-plus manufacturing, technology and skilled craft businesses.
Led by Turnstyle Tours, the excursion will examine historical documents, listen to oral histories from workers and sailors, and visit historic buildings including Civil War-era machine shops, the Yard’s museum and visitor center at BLDG 92, and a working dry dock still in use, along with today’s business ecosystem.
