Now, a tattoo of a child forever 15, as his family held Pierre’s funeral in East Elmhurst Friday.

“Jaden’s mom, she’s doing the best she can. The family’s trying to hold together, but we’re a strong family,” Washington said.

Police say Pierre was surrounded and attacked by a group at Roy Wilkins Park in St. Albans last month, then shot and killed.

They say the accused shooter and alleged gang member, 18-year-old Zahir Davis, fled to the island of Jamaica.

The NYPD worked with the teen’s father to bring him back.

That anger was raw and loud days after the shooting, as Davis walked out of the precinct station house.

The family called in Street Corner Resources, an organization born out of concern over gun violence and gang activity, to help carry a grief this deep.

“The shooting was almost execution-style, and that alarmed me,” CEO and Founder of Street Corner Resources Iesha Sekou said.

To Pierre’s uncle, he was more than how he died.

“Never says no, always ready to learn, athletic. Had so many things going on for him,” Washington said.

That’s what made this community show up Friday.

Sekou says showing up has to mean more than mourning.

“Parents need to kind of hone in, check out what’s happening with [their] kids from A to Z,” Sekou said. “I want to say thank you to everybody in the community that has come together … but we really have to come together more often. It can be just because of what happened with my nephew. It’s got to be to save all of the kids in the community.”

For Washington, saving kids also means being honest about accountability for the person who took his nephew’s life.

“I’m not angry at him. I’m personally not angry at him, but he has to learn. You walk those streets, you do what you do, now you got to suffer the consequences,” Washington said.

Washington says there is no justice because his nephew is being buried, and Davis is in jail.

Davis appeared in court Friday and is charged with murder.
