Twelve firefighters, one with serious burns to his body, are recovering after the floor collapsed during a 4-alarm fire in Queens on Sunday.
FDNY officials said the blaze erupted at a private home located at 26-26 93 St. in East Elmhurst just before 3 p.m. The flames, which emanated from the top floor, quickly spread to an adjacent home and engulfed the façade.

Thick plumes of smoke could be seen wafting into the sky as the inferno tore through the home. Still, firefighters entered the building. During the battle, the floor collapsed and sent at least three first responders tumbling through.
Over the course of the blaze, 12 members of the department were injured in all, with one suffering what officials described as serious burns. The firefighters were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment and are expected to survive.
The fire itself was placed under control just before 5 p.m. The home was left a charred husk after it was extinguished. Over 200 firefighters responded to the fire.
The fire marshal will determine the cause of the fire.
