The rare arrival of endangered collared lemur twins is giving visitors a reason to celebrate—and a powerful reminder of what conservation looks like up close.

There’s something about a baby animal story that is even cuter (if possible!), the week before Mother’s Day.

At the Bronx Zoo, a pair of endangered collared lemur twins has just made their public debut inside Madagascar! Exhibit, and they’re just as adorable as you might be thinking. (Scroll down for video.)

Born in March, the twins are still clinging tightly to their mother, tucked into her fur as she moves through the habitat. The twins can now be spotted tucked into their mom’s fur, their long tails helping them stay steady as she moves through the Spiny Forest.

This Birth Is a Big Deal

Collared lemur twins don’t come around often. In the wild, these animals, which are native to southern Madagascar, are endangered, largely because of habitat loss.

The Wildlife Conservation Society, which runs the zoo, is part of a Species Survival Plan—an expert-led program that helps protect genetic diversity and gives animals like the collared lemur a better shot at long-term survival.

What You May See If You Go

If you’re thinking of making a visit, here’s what to expect:

The twins are still in that clingy, early stage, so look for them wrapped around their mom. They might take short breaks from their mom to explore, but probably won’t be wandering off fully on their own just yet.
They’re most active when the habitat is calm, so earlier visits tend to be better
The Spiny Forest section of the exhibit is designed to mimic their natural environment, so give your eyes a second to adjust, and then watch for movement

If you’re looking for something to do this weekend, there may be nothing more perfect for Mother’s Day than seeing these adorable newborn babies.
