A 7 train rider was assaulted inside the Jackson Heights transit hub at Roosevelt Avenue and 74th Street during an unprovoked attack that caused him to be struck by a Flushing-bound subway.

Police from the 115th Precinct and Transit District 20 are looking for a suspect who allegedly assaulted a 7 train rider in Jackson Heights in a random attack late last month.
Police say a 63-year-old man was standing on the Flushing-bound platform in the Jackson Heights 74th Street-Broadway transit hub just before 5:30 p.m. when a stranger walked up to him and started to push him as a 7 train pulled into the station. The suspect proceeded to strike the victim, which caused him to lose his balance and fall into the still-moving train, police said. The assailant ran out of the station onto Roosevelt Avenue where he fled on foot in an unknown direction.
The victim sustained injuries to his head, leg and ankle and was transported by EMS to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

The NYPD released surveillance images of the suspect passing through the turnstiles and described him as having a medium complexion with a dark beard and mustache. He was last seen wearing a black vest over a black hooded sweatshirt with white stripes down the sleeves, black cargo pants, a black baseball cap, dark sunglasses and a black backpack.
A reward of up to $3,500 is being offered for information that leads to his arrest and indictment.

Through April 26, the 115th Precinct has reported 116 felony assaults so far in 2026, 59 fewer than the 175 reported at the same point last year, a decline of 33.7%, according to the most recent CompStat report. Transit crimes are down even further in the precinct, with nine reported so far this year, 11 fewer than the 20 reported at the same point last year, a decrease of 55%, according to CompStat.
