NATIONWIDE — MORE THAN EIGHT MILLION INSULATED THERMOS BRAND CONTAINERS are being recalled due to a design flaw that turns lids into dangerous projectiles – some of which have already caused permanent injuries, according to reports from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Forbes Magazine, and other news sources.
Illinois-based Thermos initiated a voluntary recall on April 30, following a notice from the CPSC urging consumers to immediately cease using the Stainless King 3000 and 3020 Food Jars and Sportsman 3010 Food and Beverage Bottles.

According to the CPSC alert, Thermos received 27 reports from consumers who were struck by stoppers that were forcefully ejected from these containers when opened. These consumers lodged complaints of serious injuries that required immediate medical attention. Three suffered permanent vision loss, after a lid struck them in their eyes.
The affected lids were made without center pressure-relief valves. Consequently, gas builds up in the container in a way that potentially makes the lid dislodge with force.
The products were sold nationwide at major retail stores and their websites and on Thermos.com, from March 2008, through July 2024. Consumers should visit the CPSC’s website for instructions on getting their containers or lids replaced.
