“For me, I have had several people in my family who have battled cancer, my grandfather and my uncle passed away from it, my aunt currently is fight breast cancer,” said Traywick. “(Being Miss Relay for Life) helps give me a way to fight for them and let them know I am with them and beside them.”
Alongside their visits to Hope Lodge, the Relay for Life Queens do a lot of other community service. They do general community service around Chilton County. They do a Halloween costume fundraiser for kids on the Children’s oncology floor at Children’s Hospital in Birmingham, so they can dress up during treatment around Halloween. The leftover costumes for that go to other floors. They also help get together Christmas care packages. They also do community service in partnership with other organizations around Chilton County. They also help raise money for cancer research.
“She wants to find a cure because she still has that passion; she doesn’t want someone else’s family to have to go through what she went through,” said Mays.
Outside of Relay for Life, Traywick cheers on the varsity squad at Chilton County High School.
“It’s helped me be more confident, cheering in front of people has helped me on stage,” said Traywick.
Traywick likes to hang out with friends and do crafty things. She will soon be attending cosmetology trade school alongside her other activities. Though unsure of which college, Traywick wants to go to college for interior design. She plans to try to cheer wherever she goes.
