MANHATTAN, Mont. — Friday afternoon’s contest between Manhattan and Stillwater was a big one, with the winner moving into second place in the Eastern B-C standings.
The Tigers wasted no time opening a lead with Bryn Grossman hitting a 3-run homerun in the bottom of the first to put Manhattan ahead 3-0. Averie Matheson’s double in the bottom of the second brought in two more Tiger runs. Grossman singled on her next at-bat that scored Matheson.
Grossman and Matheson combined for six hits and eight RBI’s.
After trailing 7-0, the Renegades were able to cut into the lead with runs in the third and fourth innings. Madi Kilgrove’s single in the third scored the first Stillwater run of the game and Taylor Riley’s sacrifice fly made it 7-2.
Grossman get her fifth RBI in the bottom of the fourth on a single that scored Avery DeWit.
The Renegades made a late charge in the top of the seventh that started with an Astrid Routen triple that scored Jacelynn Vinson. Routen would score a few moments later on a wild pitch to make the score 8-4. Aura Karamzadeh would single to extend the game, but Manhattan pitcher Peyton Coate was able to get a pop-out to end the game.
Manhattan (12-3) ends their season on the road against Park May 12. Stillwater ends their season 5-7 and will resume play May 21-22 in the Eastern B/C Divisonal Tournament in Billings.
