1. Hochul defends state budget process as finalization efforts continue
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul on Monday defended the state budget process after brief conflicting messages from her and state Assembly Majority Leader Carl Heastie on where budget negotiations stood late last week, though a final deal remains unfinished.
2. Three New Yorkers were on hantavirus-stricken cruise ship, Hochul says
It is unclear whether any of the New Yorkers tested positive for the virus, the governor said.
3. Van Gisbergen wins again at Watkins Glen
The New Zealander, piloting the No. 97 Chevrolet for Trackhouse Racing, really had to believe in the process when he was in 24th with just 16 laps remaining. But a late pit stop worked as van Gisbergen overtook Ty Gibbs with seven laps to go to win Go Bowling at the Glen for the second consecutive year.
4. Bryant, Deslauriers look to lead new Syracuse defense
Even after leading Syracuse football in tackles last season, Gary Bryant says he still has a lot more to offer heading into year two with the Orange. Bryant has a deep linebacker room that will be pushing him every step of the way. That includes Antoine Deslauriers, a freshman linebacker last year who tied Bryant with 60 team-leading tackles.
5. Iran war ceasefire grows increasingly shaky after Trump rejects Tehran’s latest proposal
Iran and the United States were at an impasse again Monday over how to end their war while their ceasefire grew increasingly shaky, with the two sides exchanging fire in recent days, ships and Gulf states being targeted, and fighting flaring between Israel and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah.
6. Trump says he’ll suspend federal gas tax amid war with Iran
President Donald Trump said Monday he plans to suspend the federal gasoline tax to help Americans as fuel prices continue to soar amid the United States’ war with Iran. However, suspending the federal gas tax would require an act of Congress.
