ALBANY — A 13-year-old was behind the wheel of a car that rolled over several times before it crashed into a home Sunday evening on Western Avenue, leaving several teenage passengers injured, police said.
A 14-year-old passenger suffered significant injuries when she was thrown from the vehicle, landing on the ground several feet from the wreck. Police said she was listed in stable condition at Albany Medical Center Hospital.
Five other juveniles were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
The driver was headed east when the crash occurred.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Police spokeswoman Officer Megan Craft said the department could not say why the crash occurred.
It was unclear what charges the driver might face. Police have not explained how the teens ended up in the car.
The crash occurred at 6:25 p.m. near Winthrop Avenue. Police said there was no structural damage to the home.
Western Avenue was closed between Homestead and Marion avenues while police investigated the crash. The road later reopened.
