NEW YORK (WFSB) – Three New York State residents, including one New York City resident, are expected to be monitored for hantavirus over a 42 day period.
Dr. Alister Martin, New York City’s health commissioner, posted a statement about it on Monday.

“Three New York state residents who were passengers on the MV Hondius cruise ship arrived at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska,” Martin wrote.
The commissioner said that the NYC Health Department is working with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the state’s health department.
“At this point, we do not know how long these individuals will stay in Nebraska and whether or when those individuals will return to New York,” Martin said.
Martin stressed that the risk to New Yorkers remains extremely low.
The World Health Organization also called the risk low, and said the situation was not another COVID.
Eleven cases of hantavirus were confirmed from the cruise. Three people died.
