EASTCHESTER, the Bronx (PIX11) — A 15-year-old boy accidentally shot himself in the head while playing with a friend’s gun in Bronx baseball field on Monday, police sources said.

The shooting happened at the baseball field at 3475 Bivona St. near Hunter Avenue in Eastchester at around 2:45 p.m., according to the NYPD.

Sources said the teen’s 13-year-old friend brought the gun to the scene, and the victim was playing with it when it went off.

The 15-year-old was shot in the head and rushed to the hospital, where he remained in critical but stable condition on Tuesday, police said.

The 13-year-old boy was arrested Monday night and charged with criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment, according to the NYPD.

More than 230 people have been shot citywide this year, and 82 of them have been in the Bronx, according to NYPD data.
