Shine a little light in your life at Lunera Modern Latin Fusion Restaurant Bar. Lunera is your home for fabulous margaritas, cocktails, beer, and their inventive, fresh, delicious Latin cuisine. Better still, there’s a “Happy Day” each day from 3-7pm, Thursday Karaoke, and a DJ spins world beats every Friday and Saturday from 10pm to 4am!
All are welcome at Alejandro Angel’s fine establishment, which opened on Cinco de Mayo in 2017. Frozen margaritas or on the rocks and Mexican beers on tap including Corona, Pacifico, and Modelo are on offer as well as a full cocktail menu and freshly mixed Sangria. I had a margarita mixed with fresh “maracuya” passionfruit, rimmed with spicy tajin while my companion had a creamy coconut margarita made with fresh coconut. Warm, house-made tortilla chips and salsa whet your appetite for the great food to come. The sultry interior features soft lighting with Mayan masks in niches, red and gold walls, banquettes, candles, and a moonlit dining cove for an intimate group, while larger parties can be accommodated at long tables. The new menu is a great reason to visit or come back where the house favorites remain with some exciting new dishes to entice you. We started with pulpo bravo, grilled Spanish octopus with potatoes, smoked paprika, and a squeeze of lemon ($18). Tostones Lunera are fried green plantains with pico de gallo, pesto, parmesan and a dollop of sour cream ($12). Shrimp in garlic sauce called “camarones al ajillo” are cooked in a garlicky sauce that you soak up with the toasted bread that flanks this dish ($15). Jumbo wings are great for snacking on, as are their famous tacos, quesadillas, and empanadas. Order one of each and share with your amigos while you watch the game at the bar.
Lunera’s entrées are made fresh to order, bursting with flavor from fresh ingredients. From the grill comes sizzling churrasco skirt steak with zesty chimichurri sauce and a side of crunchy yucca fries and arugula salad. “Pic- ada” in an authentic Colombian platter with grilled hanger steak, chorizo sausage, chicharron, cassava, green plantains, potatoes, and tomatoes for a hearty, satisfying dish. “Cazuela Paisa” is a big bowl of heaven. Meats, beans, and vegetables are slow-cooked in a crock pot, then served with avocado, plantains, corn, and white rice or shoestring potatoes. The Chef prepares classic Spanish paella marinera loaded with fresh shrimp, mussels, clams, and octopus cooked in a mound of saffron-scented rice. Sizzling Mexican fajitas are made with your choice of steak, shrimp, chicken, or a combination of all, along with grilled corn tortillas, rice, beans, and lots of love. Pan seared wild salmon is perfectly cooked and served with mango sauce, mashed potatoes, asparagus, and zucchini ($29).
Cool, creamy flan is one of the tempting desserts along with crème brulee with guava, and tres leches cake. Weekend Brunch is served from 12-4pm with avocado toast, steakhouse morning, Bailey’s dream French toast, and berry heaven pancakes.
