An investigation is underway after a flag displaying swastikas was seen flying above a New York University building in Greenwich Village, authorities said.

The incident occurred around 5 p.m. Wednesday during a graduation event on campus, when a flag featuring a Star of David, two swastikas and the letters “NYU” was raised above a building overlooking Washington Square Park.
NYU campus safety officers removed the flag shortly after it was discovered, the university said.
The NYPD said its Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating the incident. No arrests have been made.
In a statement, an NYU spokesperson said the school was “shocked and deeply troubled” by the incident. The university is “working closely with the NYPD to identify whoever is responsible,” he said.
“We are one community. We protect each other, and we will not let hate and division find a foothold on our campus,” he added.
