QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) — Multiple trees toppled down during a severe storm in Queens Thursday afternoon, damaging several cars, according to multiple videos obtained by PIX11 News.
A huge tree was pulled from its roots, landing in the middle of 160th Street and 33rd Avenue. Yellow caution tape was placed around the area, and NYPD vehicles kept the area sectioned off, video shows.
In Hollis, a BMW was damaged after a tree fell on it. Video shows the back windows and sunroof are cracked, with broken glass on the car’s bumper. The car was located near 100th Avenue and 205th Place.
A weather alert was issued by the New York City Office of Emergency Management due to a storm in the area.
Another car, a red Jeep Cherokee, was also damaged after a tree came tumbling down.
Rainfall totals are expected to reach 1 to 2 inches. Wind speeds could top 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. As the storm exits on Friday, stronger winds are expected, with gusts up to 50 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
