LONGWOOD, the Bronx (PIX11) — A 15-year-old boy was arrested after a stray bullet grazed a 5-year-old girl during a gang shootout in the Bronx, police and sources said.
The teen was arrested Friday and charged with attempted murder, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment, and criminal possession of a firearm, according to the NYPD.
The child was struck in the ear during a gang shootout on Southern Boulevard in Longwood at around 5:25 p.m. Wednesday, according to sources and police.
The girl was taken to the hospital in stable condition, cops said.
The suspects appeared to be involved in a gang shootout when the child was injured, sources said. It was unclear what sparked the shooting.
“It’s devastating to me. I’m a grandfather to a 5-year-old little girl,” said Javier Medina, who runs the Southern Boulevard Business Improvement District.
The NYPD released photos and videos of two other suspects sought in the shootout. The footage showed the suspects running down the sidewalk while firing shots.
There were no other arrests on Friday.
