HAGERSTOWN- The man known by many in Washington County and throughout the tristate area as “Mr. Hagerstown” has a new home for the rest of the ALPB season. Osvaldo “Ossie” Abreu officially signed with the Staten Island FerryHawks of the Atlantic League on Friday, this just days after being released by Hagerstown.
Abreu got a chance to speak exclusively with News Talk 1037FM’s Allison Trobaugh after the announcement, which was the culmination of years of work in the Dominican Republic to the Washington Nationals system, and back to Hagerstown. After marrying his wife, Nicky, after the met while playing with the Hagerstown Suns, Abreu settled in Washington County for good.
After playing multiple years for the Flying Boxcars, he was let go by the organization in May of 2026. Abreu, still loving the game and off to a hot start, would be quickly courted by two New York ALPB teams. In the end, Abreu signed with the Staten Island FerryHawks and reports to the team immediately.
While the FerryHawks take on the Boxcars soon (beginning the week of May 26th), they don’t host Staten Island until the week before Labor Day, beginning on Tuesday, September 1st.
